Dynamic Dog Asssessment

Do you feel your dog doesn’t quite move right but cant put your finger on it?

Do you struggle with your dog’s reactivity or anxiety?

Is your dog over-sensitive to certain sounds?

Does your dog struggle to settle at home?

Does your dog pull excessively on the lead?

Does your dog’s personality seem to have changed? Are they more lethargic? More sensitive to sounds? More “grumpy”?

Physical health and pain has a PROFOUND impact on a dog’s behaviour.

 andEverything is connected.

With a Dynamic Dog Assessment I conduct a thorough and detailed assessment when working with you and your dog so no stone is left unturned. I take ALL aspects of your dog’s life into consideration, including their physical health, which can be a major contributing factor to your dog’s problematic behaviour.

I work with a sound knowledge of the inner structures and systems of the dog, and understand the impact that emotional and physical components may have on behaviour.

Pain and behaviour are often closely linked, and pain-related behaviour is extremely complex.

Just because a dog is not limping or whining does not mean they are not in pain. Dogs do not show pain in the way we would usually expect – it is often subtle and goes unnoticed for weeks, months and even years! Dogs with fractured limbs have been known to still run after a ball!

In a recent study carried out in Lincoln University by Daniel Mills, it was found that approximately 80% of dogs that presented with behavioural issues had some form of undiagnosed pain that was a direct cause or adding to the problematic behaviour.

Why wait for your dog to go lame, before you consider they are in pain?

If you are experiencing unwanted or problematic behaviour with your dog, if pain is contributing to it, and the pain is not identified and managed, you are unlikely to ever be able to resolve the behaviour concerned.

A Dynamic Dog assessment differs to a standard behavioural assessment.

This is included in ALL behaviour consultations!

I take history of your dog’s behaviour and past experiences, and review your dog’s medical history, but I also assess your dog’s posture and gait, as well as how they navigate and cope with everyday activities.

It is a very in depth process, and results in a comprehensive report which is sent to your vet to assist them with their examination.

What to expect

1. 60 - 90 minute “Deep Dive” consultation

This can be on Zoom or in person, depending on your location. This is an in-depth discussion about your dog, and what life looks like for you and your dog. I will want to know everything!

Often unexpected things come up as we go along.

2. Data Gathering

I will request specific photos and videos of your dog so I can assess for any potential physical issues.

3. Evidence Analysis

I will then go over all the data & information given in the consult so I can build the full picture of what is going on for your dog.

4. Veterinary Report & Liaison

A thorough veterinary report is then compiled, and sent to your vet along with corresponding evidence with my findings to ensure that any underlying health issues are diagnosed and supported so that they lessen the impact on your dogs behaviour.

5. Behaviour Management Plan

This may be a short term to help you micro manage behaviour whilst additional Veterinary support is given or longer term help can be discussed depending on assessment outcomes.

Either way, we make sure you have full support during the initial Dynamic Dog Assessment.

Dogs are masters at hiding pain, and it is often shown in ways that are missed by us humans.

The way a dog sits, how they sleep, how they navigate stairs and doorways are all just a handful of things that can tell us a lot about how a dog is feeling physically.

A stand-alone full Dynamic Dog assessment is £150.
