It is never too early to start training your puppy

January 09, 2013

I met a lovely couple today when I went to do a one to one dog training session with them and their adorable miniature schnauzer puppy in Brockham, Surrey.  They are truly committed to raising a well balanced, happy, well trained dog who is part of their family.  Puppies are like sponges, and the earlier you start training your puppy, the easier it will be and the more you can achieve.

What is, of course, important to remember is that puppies have a short attention span, get bored easily and need a lot of naps throughout the day, so training sessions should be kept short and sweet.  A minute or two here, a minute or two there.  Instead of setting aside half an hour for training, grab minutes throughout the day at times such as when you are waiting for the kettle to boil, or when you are waiting for something to cook on the stove.  Short sessions will keep your puppy interested in the training.

Classes are a great way to learn a variety of behaviours, commands and tricks to teach your puppy, which will be invaluable in everyday life. Our classes are currently held in Westcott and Betchworth (near Dorking) in Surrey, and we cover the entire Surrey area for individual, one to one training sessions.
